X10 for Productivity and Performance at Scale
نویسندگان
چکیده
We implement all four HPC Class II benchmarks in X10: Global HPL, Global RandomAccess, EP Stream (Triad), and Global FFT. We also implement the Unbalanced Tree Search benchmark (UTS). We show performance results for these benchmarks running on an IBM Power 775 Supercomputer utilizing up to 47,040 Power7 cores. We believe that our UTS implementation demonstrates that X10 can deliver unprecedented productivity and performance at scale for unbalanced workloads. The X10 tool chain and the benchmark codes are publicly available at http://x10-lang.org.

Compiling Matlab for High Performance Computing via X 10 1 Sable Technical Report
Matlab is a popular dynamic array-based language commonly used by students, scientists and engineers, who appreciate the interactive development style, the rich set of array operators, the extensive builtin library, and the fact that they do not have to declare static types. Even though these users like to program in Matlab, their computations are often very computeintensive and are better suit...
متن کاملPorting MPI based HPC Applications to X10
X10 is a high-productivity programming language that internally supports parallel and distributed computing. X10 is based on an APGAS (Asynchronous Partitioned Global Address Space) programming model. Applications written in X10 can run on multiple places, which are abstractions of computation nodes, create activities to perform parallel computations in the same place by using async statements,...
متن کاملX10: Programming for Hierarchical Parallelism and Non-Uniform Data Access
The challenges faced by current and future-generation largescale systems include: 1) Frequency wall: inability to follow past frequency scaling trends, 2) Memory wall: inability to support a coherent uniform-memory access model with reasonable performance, and 3) Scalability wall: inability to utilize all levels of available parallelism in the system. These challenges manifest themselves as bot...
متن کاملOptimizing Array Accesses in High Productivity Languages
One of the outcomes of DARPA’s HPCS program has been the creation of three new high productivity languages: Chapel, Fortress, and X10. While these languages have introduced improvements in language expressiveness and programmer productivity, several technical challenges still remain in delivering high performance with these languages. In the absence of optimization, the high-level language cons...
متن کاملA high-productivity task-based programming model for clusters
Programming for large-scale, multicore-based architectures requires adequate tools that offer ease of programming and do not hinder application performance. StarSs is a family of parallel programming models based on automatic function-level parallelism that targets productivity. StarSs deploys a data-flow model: it analyzes dependencies between tasks and manages their execution, exploiting thei...
